We are currently in the middle of Northern Kenya, at a Turkana based research centre near the city of Lodwar. We returned yesterday from camping in the desert to a million and a half emails, explaining the various ways to deal with the outbreak back in the states.
To my friends in New York City and in cities around the world…I am so sorry. I know universities are shutting down, shows are closing midway through the rehearsal process, and plans set in motion from years ago are stopping before they’ve started. I am so so sorry. I cannot imagine.
It is hard to imagine the scale of what is happening from so far. From emails, and shifting
regulations, it seems like an overwhelming enormous plague. From news, it seems less dire. We have no information other than what we get through emails, and the occasional news headline. Wifi isn't ideal, and it's hard to keep in touch, but we'll be back in Nanyuki soon.
Is everybody safe? Okay? Do people need to vent or just talk and plan? I understand that summer plans are likely changing fast, and want to extend that I am more than happy to read and help edit job applications and cover letters. I am also more than happy to write letters of recommendation on a quick turnover, if that is something people need. As isolated as we are…we get to be a little more separated from the stress and craziness of what’s going on. I absolutely am happy to help in any way I can.
We just returned from Lothagam. I’ve never been more grateful for cold water in my life.
Let me know if you need anything.
Love,
Carolyn
